English Morphology and Lexicology

This course provides students with the basic tools of linguistic and semantics and opens with a presentation of morphemic analysis and Saussurean linguistics, raising the question of the relationship between form of meaning. In a series of practical exercises and questions, students are invited to reflect on segmentation and are guided into understanding the relevance of the classic units of linguistic description: the morpheme, the grapheme, the phoneme, and the seme. We then move on to lexicology and focus on word-formation. Students are required to research personal examples illustrating the main processes of lexical creation, which should lead them to identify possible regularities in connection with social values and taboos.

Session 1 :

• Étudiants régime spécial : contrôle terminal d’1h. Questions de cours et d’analyses de formes, éventuellement à partir d’un texte pivot.

Session 2 (« rattrapage ») :

Étudiants régime général et régime spécial: 1 devoir sur table d’1h. Questions de cours et d’analyses de formes, éventuellement à partir d’un texte pivot. Épreuve écrite unique 2 heures commune S3 et S4 (1h S3 et 1h S4).
